A former biology teacher and academic analyst in Colombia, Nadia now works as a teacher's aide while she strengthens her English toward professional-level fluency — the step she needs to return to leading her own classroom.
Entrepreneurship
Once an environmental supervisor for mining companies in Peru, Magaly is building EPIKA, a Peruvian bakery and catering business, and working with a webmaster to bring her brand online.
Cosmetology
Maria completed two years of Spanish-language cosmetology training at the Tech Center at Yorktown, earning her certificate in June 2024 — a milestone she celebrated cap, gown, and all.
Nursing
A trained nurse in her home country, Sulema built her English at Westchester Community College and recently certified as a Home Health Aide through Ossining Padres Hispanos — one step closer to nursing again.
Family Support
A certified life coach in her home country and mother of a child with Down syndrome, Yesenia founded The Art of Guiding With Love, a program supporting parents of children with disabilities.
Textile Arts
An accomplished seamstress running her own sewing business, Rosa attended the Custom Workroom Conference for drapery and upholstery, and now shares what she learned with her own students twice a week at The Community Center's Community Studio.
Home Health Aide
Celia trained at the Lincoln Trade School and now holds her Home Health Aide certification, putting her on a path toward the caregiving work she's passionate about.

Diana completed her training as a Clinical Medical Assistant at Westchester Community College, opening the door to work in a doctor's office or clinical setting.
